Joanna Paun has dedicated her career to supporting children, families, and public education in Sonoma County. As a mother of four, a Trustee and former President of the Petaluma School Board, and Sonoma County’s foster and homeless youth education coordinator, Joanna has spent years advocating for students and making sure every child has the opportunity to succeed. She has worked to give students a stronger voice in their schools, expand equity and inclusion, and close achievement gaps so all young people can reach their full potential.
Joanna believes public service is about putting families and communities first. She helped bring cleaner electric school buses to local districts to protect student health and the environment, pushed for more inclusive and representative leadership in local government, and consistently focused on practical solutions that improve everyday life. As the first African American elected in Petaluma, Joanna understands the importance of leadership that reflects and serves the entire community. She listens, leads with integrity, and works to deliver results that make Sonoma County a more affordable, safe, and supportive place to live, work, raise a family, and retire.
